As we navigate the complexities of human relationships, we often find ourselves pondering the nature of judgment. We evaluate others, forming opinions about their character based on their actions. But, have you ever stopped to consider the intricacies of intention and action?

We have all been guilty of it – judging others based solely on their actions, without considering the motivations behind them. We crucify them for their mistakes, without pausing to reflect on the intentions that drove those actions. But, is this truly just? Should we not strive to understand the complex interplay between intention and action?

The Holy Qur’an offers a profound insight into this conundrum by professing,

Deeds are judged by intentions — (HQ 2: 225)

Friend, whenever you find yourself at the receiving end of judgment solely based on your actions, remember that there exists a realm beyond human scrutiny, where the depths of your intentions are laid bare alongside our actions. In this realm, your true character is revealed, and it is there that you are ultimately judged.

That notwitstanding, if we allow the cacophony of criticism and judgment to drown out our own inner voice, we risk losing sight of our true purpose and identity.

As the African proverb wisely cautions,

If you listen to the noise of the market, you will end up buying nothing.

In this profound sense, judgment becomes not a condemnation, but a revelation – a reflection of the depths of our own hearts, where our intentions and actions converge. For in the end, it is the harmony between our intentions and actions that defines us.

Let us learn to gaze beyond the surface level of actions, and seek to understand the complexities of the human heart, where intentions and actions intersect. For it is only by considering the intricate dance between the two that we can truly begin to understand one another, and find peace in the knowledge that The Almighty’s judgment is always just.
